Painting for a Chair
Elisa Bergmann was invited to start an artistic dialogue with Aito’s pieces and Schauraum. The window vitrine, lying between inside and outside, private and public, became an experimental space for artistic exploration. Discussions unfolded about materiality and the relationship between painting and crafting processes. The engagement of Bergmann’s works and Aito’s handcrafted objects reflect this collaboration and ongoing exchange.
An endless play with colour and form organises the pictorial space of Bergmann’s work. In layers she develops a vocabulary of abstract forms and figurative moments that overlap on the canvas. Relief-like structures reveal brushwork, speed and strength of paint application. Small coloured strokes, as in the painting abstrakte Figuration, figurative Abstraktion recall Pointillism techniques. She considers colour an individual means of expression, questioning the relationship and hierarchies of composition, texture and palette.
