Founded by Jakob Posch and Elena Cooke, Aito creates handcrafted, everyday objects. Our design process is driven by a curiosity in the role objects play in shaping our movements and interactions, and the part we all play in bringing them to life.

We chose the name Aito because we liked the form the characters create, later happily discovering it also means “authentic” in Finnish. We began by making objects we missed in our own home - companions we wanted to have but could not find. In 2017, we traveled to Japan, where we met artisans and explored small workshops and neighbourhood stores. The experience inspired our approach and reaffirmed our belief that handmade forms can shape the small routines of daily living and that simple objects can enrich life quietly.

All objects are made in our Vienna workshop, using sustainably sourced native Austrian woods. Each piece reflects the quality of the material and the maker’s hand, with finishes carefully considered to highlight the wood’s natural character and tactile qualities. Through our small batch collections, we contemplate an alternative to mass production, where each piece reflects the time and care that goes into making it.
