Gampi

Exhibition "Gampi" (2019)
Elektro Gönner
Mariahilfer Str. 101/1, Schulhofpassage
1060 Wien

Jakob is very interested in paper and has already tried out quite a lot of things. It is a pleasure to speak with him about different solutions for wood, metal and casting because his knowledge of the techniques is very good. He studied industrial design at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna and wanted to create a larger lamp shade from Japanese fibers. The challenge lay in stability, transparency and even fiber distribution. A dance at the limit of materiality.

Combining transparency and stability is a challenge. Transparent handmade papers are very impressive. However, every bit of lint is visible when held up to the light, and the fibers must be carefully prepared.

The solution took quite a lot of effort. The thin-walled results, which can also be seen at the exhibition together with lamp bases, were particularly impressive.

Jakob also made the screens himself, and I think a wooden ring inside would also be practical so that more fiber volume remains in the mold during scooping. There will be further experiments.
