Palmen im Wind

10 Nov - 9 Dec 2022

Inspired by the Javanese culture of spirits, the Hantu character was developed by the sculptor Fabian Fink during an artist residency in Yogyakarta in 2017. The gentle curves of the character’s expressive arms and legs meet a sphere-like head, originally a coconut, with two holes for eyes.

For the exhibition Palmen in Wind, Fabian Fink and Jakob Posch revisited the Hantu character. Engaging in a collaborative process, they exchanged and crafted individual pieces to create a series of Hantu lamps that have a playful quality. Made with locally sourced Austrian wood, the lamps emit a warm light to attract and hold friendly spirits.
